flaggrantdisregard.com has put a great page together that monitors the EXIF data of photo uploads to flickr and extracts camera information. Here’s the top ten list of camera models:

1 NIKON D50 Nikon
2 NIKON D70 Nikon
3 Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT Canon
4 Canon EOS 20D Canon
5 Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL Canon
6 NIKON D70s Nikon
7 CYBERSHOT Sony
8 Canon PowerShot S2 IS Canon
9 Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL Canon
10 NIKON D200 Nikon

They have also extrapolated top manufacturers, and what is pretty amazing here is that 2 of the top ten are mobile phone manufacturers, Sony Ericsson and Nokia respectively.

1 Canon
2 Nikon
3 Sony
4 FujiFilm
5 Kodak
6 Olympus
7 Casio
8 Sony Ericsson
9 Nokia
10 Panasonic

Also here’s a post with a graph of the top DSLR camera uploads

It’s amazing what people will do with data if they can get their hands on it.

haha, that’s pretty funny, a little validation in your choice of cameras :-) Mind you if you take a look at the top fifty, Canon is just all over it. I havn’t made the leap to the Dslr yet, I used to have a nikon f100 that I loved, but I ended up selling all my film cameras (except of course for an emergency Nikon FM2).

I wonder what the user demographics are at Flickr.

Stats might be skewed. Looking at the list of top cameras, it looks a little too “upscale” to what I would guess if someone asked me which cameras sell the most.

[...] Today Karl Long points out a site that tracks the top cameras used on flickr (the info is stored inside the photo file and can be extracted if you know where to look, I guess), and my camera – the Nikon D50 – is the top one listed. [...]

In it’s simplest form, all this means that this list show’s the most purchased camera’s on the market. Doesn’t mean that they are better or worse than another.

The data is just compiled camera model’s.
